A Spooky visit to Abbey House Museum

We visited Abbey House Museum an hour before opening time for some spooky crafts and activities. Many fantastic creations were made including masks, witch/wizard hats and some beautiful pictures. Then after a very yummy snack and warm drinks we toured the museum at our leisure. A huge thank you to the Museum for letting us in early!

Little Hiccup Halloween Party

This year we had an impromptu Halloween Party as it fell during half term and it turned out to be very popular! There were lots of scary snacks and spooky costumes and thanks to Katy, some very ickle and slimy pumpkins with treats inside!

We also had a visit from Jonathan from LV with a very generous donation of £1000! Every quarter LV (www.lv.com) pick a charity to donate £1000 and a second to donate £500. These are chosen from staff nominations and voted for. Many thanks to Jonathan Clark for nominating us for this quarter's worthwhile cause!

We are especially pleased that he could join us at our Halloween Party - though he didn't come in fancy dress. Maybe next time....

Theatre Day with Blunderbus - 'How to Catch a Star'
3rd August 2013

Irwin Mitchell Logo Blunderbuss Logo

Children with disabilities were treated to a theatre experience with a difference in Leeds.

Blunderbus Theatre Company performed a family-friendly production of How To Catch A Star in the offices of a law firm.

Puppeteers, musicians and actors from the internationally-acclaimed theatre troupe made the story come to life at Irwin Mitchell's offices in Wellington Place in Leeds.

The play is based on the classic children's book by award-winning author Oliver Jeffers, and tells the tale of a boy who embarks on an incredible journey across land, sea and skies in search of his own star.

The event was sponsored by Irwin Mitchell and organised by the Snaps and Little Hiccups charities, which are run by parents and carers of children with special needs and disabilities.

They are a vibrant, inclusive and forward-looking charitable organisation, committed to educating, entertaining and inspiring people of all ages and abilities and from all walks of life, from primary school children to international scholars.

Little Hiccups certainly enjoyed themselves here and were able to have a relaxing lunch courtesy of the museum donating us use of one of the conferance suites (thank you Thackray's!). The end section, with the sights, smells and sounds was the most popular, especially as there was a lovely lady waiting with drawings and crayons at the end.

Middleton Railway
30th March 2013

Middleton Railway Logo

We had a small group of around 20 people visit the Middleton Railway at the start of the Easter holidays. We were fortunate with the weather and although it was cold (there was still snow on the ground) the sun was shining.

After a fun ride on the train, we disembarked at Park Halt and enjoyed a quick walk in the sun before returning on the train back to the museum and cafe for lunch and a hot chocolate to warm up.

This was another enjoyable day out at the World's Oldest Working Railway which was built in 1758. The locomotives worked from 1812 onwards as a supplier of coal to Leeds's industrial expansion.

Sleeping Beauty at The West Yorkshire Playhouse
6th January 2013

Sleeping Beauty

As always, the Playhouse never fails to impress with a fresh and fun retelling of a classic fairytale brought to life by an amazing cast.

It was lovely to hear the children giggle as the Prince found himself turned into a frog and the imaginative use of knitted flowers adorning the stage adding an element of beauty to the fantastic storyline.
