Million Steps Challenge - We did it!

Date: Sunday 6th July 2014
Time: 11am start for presentation. All day event for Steps.
Where: Armley Park, 161 Killer Stairs

Well we smashed it! We aimed for 1,000,000 and got 1,219,786. The day was a massive success with the weather turning out beautiful. We had families enjoying their picnics and children playing in the park. But best of all was the enthusiasm of all our runners. From children as young as 18mths, Little Hiccup families all the way up to Boxers and some very fit people indeed - everyone gave it their absolute best.

With many thanks to everyone involved organising the day: Antony 'Trailblazer' Newby from Trailblazer Bootcamps who first dared to dream that this was indeed possible, Vince Heckman from Thermo Casa who very kindly purchased a buggy for us, John H Stracey for presenting it and donating a fantastic collage of his boxing career to be auctioned by Brendan O'Connor who helped make this day possible, the Little Hiccups Committee and Conquerors for helping out and to everyone who ran the steps, raised money and felt the pain the next day! And of course to our amazing sponsors Simpson Millar Solicitors. And hopefully I have remembered everyone!

The Presentation

Kangoo BuggyA little while ago one of our committee members, Katy, contacted a lovely man called Brendan who lives in London as she had heard that he had done some fundraisers through Mike Tobin and Antony 'Trailblazer' Newby from Trailblazer Bootcamps. Another generous man called Vince heard about this and got in touch with Brendan even though he'd never met him, because they had mutual friends and an equal love and involvement in boxing and fundraising and it ended up that they both made a contribution to the Hiccups Conqueror cause. But it didn't end there. Vince started to follow Little Hiccups on Facebook and read about our events, our family activities and the hard work that goes into raising funds for all the Little Hiccups families and he wanted to do more to help out.

Vince amazingly decided that he wanted to commit to purchasing by Christmas a new Kangoo Buggy for Little Hiccups through his company Thermo Casa. And that is exactly what has happened! And more excitingly it is occurring way before Christmas. In fact it is happening in July. You will be able to see the hard word and the amazing generosity of people on the day of the Million Steps - a perfect example of what hard word and dedication can do!

Vince and Brendan will be joining us along with famous boxer John H Stracey who will be presenting the Kangoo to Little Hiccups on the morning of the Million Steps. You can read about John H Stracey in this article in The Telegraph. Everyone will be welcome. In fact everyone is actively encouraged to see what all the fuss is about! Come along to the Presentation, bring the family and a picnic then maybe join in the steps for a little bit!

The Challenge

Never one to rest up, the Hiccup Conquerors are at it again. This time, we are working in conjunction with Trailblazer Bootcamps and the Armley Park 161 Killer Stairs. We have given ourselves a challenge. Can we run the 161 Killer Steps a million times? We think we can do it! But we need your help. There is no way we can do this alone. This event is open to everyone (over 16's running only please). You can run them one time, or you can run them 10 but give it go and be proud in the knowledge that you helped us to break a record!

This will be a full day event supported by the Leeds City Council with TV, Radio and boxing stars past and present all getting involved and we will be needing volunteers to help out and to join in! We've come up with a unique way of keeping count. We're going to need you to come in a white t-shirt and please bring any little helpers to keep tally, with the hope of a gorgeous sunny day the kids will love it. And we've also invited friends from the Leeds Marriott Hotel and Simpson Miller LLP solicitors who've generously offered to supply refreshments and banana's to keep us going throughout the day. The whole family is invited. Bring a picnic, some games and make a day of it and in the meantime support the team.

To help raise money people can either be sponsored by friends or make a small donation on the day of just a couple of pounds to join in or those who can't make it but want to donate can do so online.

Sunday 6th July 2014 - put it in your diary!

No need to book for the picnic. Just turn up for fun day! Please email us on events@littlehiccups.co.uk if you have any questions or want to join in the Challenge.

The Important Health and Safety Bit

The most important thing is to remember that this is supposed to be a fun event to raise money for the Hiccup Conquerors! If you are coming please remember the following:
