📝 About the Session
- What we will be doing: Breaking the link between ADHD and youth suicide and what the data and lived experience tell us. Ruth Grierson lost her son Henry, who had
ADHD, in April 2024, three days after he was excluded from his sixth
form college. In this session she sets out what the research shows about ADHD and suicide in young people, the warning signs that are easy to miss, and what parents and carers can do at home and with school or college. It is aimed at parents and carers supporting boys,
but parents and carers of girls are just as welcome and will get as much from it. - What to expect (The Vibe): An interactive, collaborative workshop format filled with real-world examples, reflection, and shared strategies. The session talks openly about suicide, so
people should come when they feel ready, and anyone is free to step out to the side room at any point. It runs 10 till 12 with lunch afterwards, and there’ll be a short list of support lines on the day. If anyone wants to ask something in advance please email Ruth at
info@henrygrierson.org. - Who it’s for: This session is specifically for parents and carers who feel this subject is relevant. We apologise, but these courses are not suitable for children and there is no childcare available. During this session, we have access to a separate breakout space, if anyone needs some time out of the room.
- Date & Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm (Plus lunch and questions afterwards)

- About the Presenter: Ruth Grierson is the founder and chair of the Henry Grierson ADHD & Mental Health Foundation, which she established after her son Henry died by suicide at seventeen, having been repeatedly failed by the systems meant to support a neurodivergent child.Ruth holds a PhD and was a university lecturer and published researcher before turning profound personal loss into a national campaign to break the link between ADHD and youth suicide. She is trained in Mental Health First Aid and ASIST suicide intervention, and she is a co-investigator on university research into neurodivergence and youth suicide. She works alongside the Centre for Social Justice, the NHS and academic researchers, and speaks with rare honesty about grief, ADHD and change.
