Our Stay and Play was how Little Hiccups began. Little Hiccups was founded by parents who have children with additional needs. They discovered that there were no groups in the area that catered for their very young children and proposed setting up Little Hiccups. They recognise that finding out that your child has additional needs can be a journey full of turmoil.
There are a lot of groups out there that specialise in certain conditions but the general support groups tend to be aimed at older children. This is where Little Hiccups comes in. We welcome any family from birth and hold a weekly Stay and Play session in to suit all abilities.
The sessions are held at The Vinery Centre, Mencap Leeds. We offer a safe environment with a soft play and sensory room along with sensory toys suitable for all needs. It is a relaxing atmosphere where your child will be allowed to play and discover the world at their own pace. We aim to put on activities (such as baby massage and music sessions) during this that families can choose to join in or simply play and relax. It is important that you do what is suitable for you and your child.
Parents and Carers will also have the opportunity to meet others in similar circumstances, make new friends and support each other. This group is predominately aimed at under 5’s but home schooled children or older siblings do sometimes attend during school holidays. As always, the sessions will remain relaxed and the below activities are voluntary. It is all about what you need from us.
You may find that you are not quite ready for Stay and Play sessions. Every person is different. If this is the case, why not consider our Outreach programme.
Please note that Little Hiccups services are for families that have children that have disabilities or additional needs. New families are always welcome but please register for free first.
