There is nothing quite like the power of play to blow away the cobwebs, and our first session of Drama for the Heart did exactly that. Our theme for the week was “Washing Through Time,” and let’s just say things got very creative, very quickly!
Scrubbing Up on Our Skills
We kicked things off with some silly warm-up and ice-breaker games to get everyone relaxed before diving into the world of physical theatre. Working in partners, our participants took on the challenge of becoming everyday objects.
Kathleen was particularly taken with the group’s mechanical skills: “I was super impressed with our integral washing machine with sound FX!”
From Microscopic Germs to Quirky Commuters
The imagination didn’t stop there. We transformed the room into a “Museum of Germs,” where participants became the exhibits. Our visitor had to navigate their way through interactive microscopes, floating germs, and human petri dishes to guess where they were!
We also hopped on a bus driven by one of our participants, encountering a whole host of “quirky” passengers. It was a race against time for the driver to identify everyone’s unique quirks before the end of the journey—and we’re happy to report they guessed them all!
The Doctor Will See You Now
To wrap up a fantastic hour, the group set the scene for a Doctor’s surgery. We had a queue of patients with some of the most weird and wonderful ailments you’ve ever seen. The poor “Doctor” had their work cut out trying to diagnose them all, but it was an absolute hoot from start to finish.
