There is nothing quite like a room full of parent carers who completely “get it” to turn a regular day into something genuinely special. This week, Little Hiccups teamed up with the wonderful crew at Space2 for a hands-on, sensory workshop that left everyone feeling refreshed, inspired, and loaded with handmade goodies to cart home.
Our Parent Carer courses today was designed strictly for the mums, dads, and carers of children with additional needs or disabilities. It is all about giving you a well-deserved, kid-free breather—a rare chance to step away from the daily routine, focus entirely on your own wellbeing, and have a proper chinwag with people who understand the unique ride of additional needs parenting.
Crafting Natural Remedies & Good Laughs
The theme for the morning was “Homemade Herbals,” led by the brilliant and creative team from Space2 (an award-winning arts and wellbeing charity based in Gipton, Leeds). With a cosy group of 15 attendees, the workshop format was nice and relaxed, letting everyone dive right into the tactile, sensory world of traditional crafts.
We spent the morning experimenting, creating, and sharing plenty of laughs. Here is the impressive haul we managed to make and take home:
- Immune-Boosting Fire Cider: A traditional, non-alcoholic herbal tonic packed with seasonal herbs and spices infused into vinegars. Absolutely ideal for keeping the immune system ticking over!
- Invigorating Body Scrub: A gorgeous, completely natural skin treat mixed up using simple garden and kitchen staples.
- An Origami Heart: A surprise creative addition to the day that brought out everyone’s competitive—and crafty—side!
- Take-Home Recipes: Full guides so everyone can recreate these remedies at home whenever a bit of self-care is required.
Honestly, it was a really funny day with great company and brilliant energy in the room. Taking some time out to work with our hands, focus on nature-inspired crafts, and just laugh together is sometimes the best therapy there is.
A Beautiful Lunch & Essential Cake
After wrapping up our herbal creations and washing the scrub from our hands, the session was topped off with a fantastic, beautifully prepared lunch provided by Mencap. It gave everyone the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax, catch up, and chat properly over a hot drink.
And, of course, no Little Hiccups gathering would be complete without it—we finished the afternoon with some truly spectacular cake! It is safe to say we all love the cake, and it was the absolute perfect ending to an incredibly uplifting day.
