For Lissi and her son Matthew, going out together—even to familiar places—was a source of intense anxiety. Every trip felt like planning a military operation, filled with contingency plans for when things went wrong. The fear of judgmental stares and comments made their world increasingly small, limiting them to only a handful of places and an even smaller circle of people.
Managing unpredictable situations and the emotional toll of public outings meant that experiences others take for granted were out of reach. Lissi longed for opportunities to create positive memories with Matthew but needed a safe, understanding environment to make that possible.
Joining Little Hiccups changed everything. Through our Fun Days, Lissi found a supportive community where she was never alone and never judged—just met with friendly faces who genuinely wanted to help. These events provided a safe space for families like hers to enjoy experiences without fear.
Recently, Lissi and Matthew attended the Lush Halloween Event, something unimaginable just six months earlier. Knowing they’d be welcomed “as they are” gave Lissi the confidence to book. Matthew had an amazing time making his own pumpkin bath bomb and spooky monster face, leaving with bags of goodies. He managed to stay for 20 minutes, and as they headed back to the car, he said unprompted:
“That was the best morning ever.”
For Lissi, those words brought tears of joy. Little Hiccups Fun Days have not only created cherished memories but also equipped her with confidence and practical strategies for future outings. Positive experiences now serve as stepping stones, making new adventures feel possible.
