Channeling Our Inner Child: In the Playground

Channeling Our Inner Child: In the Playground

Channeling Our Inner Child: In the Playground

March 31, 2026 Events

Our latest Drama of the Heart session was a whirlwind of nostalgia, laughter, and just a little bit of playground mayhem! This week, we stepped back in time to explore our theme, “In the Playground,” diving headfirst into the magic (and the occasional tantrum) of childhood.

Guess That Tune!

We kicked things off by testing our memories with a “Children’s TV Theme Tune” quiz. It was a trip down memory lane as we journeyed through the eras—from the whimsical tinkling of The Magic Roundabout to the iconic Blue Peter horns and the high-energy chaos of Fun House. It’s amazing how a few notes can instantly transport you back to sitting on the living room carpet!

Playground Personalities

The energy shifted up a gear during our role-play. We transformed into our younger selves, bringing all those wonderful, quirky “childlike” traits to the surface. Our “nursery teacher” had their work cut out for them trying to manage:

  • An avid gymnast who couldn’t stop flipping and tumbling around the room.
  • A budding superhero convinced they were the real deal.
  • The pure, unfiltered excitement that only a playground setting can provide!

Art Attack & Classroom Chaos

In our pretend primary school, we took on an Art Attack inspired challenge (complete with sound effects!). Our “teacher” had the daunting task of giving verbal directions to draw a hidden image—a sun.

Let’s just say things didn’t stay quiet for long! Between the “pupils” screaming their heads off, falling out with their neighbours, and a few “accidents” from those who didn’t make it to the toilet in time, it was a total riot. Poor teacher—they certainly earned their keep!

Script Work and Star Guests

We also flexed our acting muscles by trialling some nursery and primary-based script reading. It was fantastic to see everyone sharing their short “skits” with the group, showing off some great comedic timing.

To wrap up our final session, we turned the studio into the Blue Peter set. Our presenters had to interview “famous role models” live on air. The catch? The interviewer didn’t know who they were talking to! Our participants didn’t make it easy, choosing characters that—while hilarious—were perhaps a little bit “unsuitable” for a young daytime audience. The interviewers definitely had to work for their money!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for this term. It’s been a joy to watch everyone grow, play, and support one another through the power of drama.
