It’s been a while since we had Made With Music down to one of our sessions for a visit – made even longer by Covid regulations. They have started to relax however, and we were in a larger room over the summer holidays with a door to the outside to allow fresh air in. So, when one of our families asked if we could have them in for a visit, we jumped at the chance!
Made with Music is an award winning charity providing accessible live music for families.
And we didn’t regret it. We continued to monitor numbers to ensure everyone was kept safe, and it was a little weird singing with a facemask on but it was worth it! The theme was ‘The Sea’ and it was lovely to see how engaged the children were with it all. It was very relaxed so there was a lot of movement with little ones, and some took a break outside for a little bit before dipping in and out. But that is what our sessions are all about. It is about what is right for the child and to give them freedom to explore at their own pace. The music session was nice and sensory as well. The children were allowed maracas and lacy, colourful cloths to swirl around.
It sounds like Hannah from Made with Music loved being back too as she says “some of our very first music session for Made with Music were with Little Hiccups around 10 years ago! We have loved meeting all of your lovely families and making music with you all at your stay and plays and then meeting some of you at our gigs. Music plays such a huge part in our lives, listening to certain types of music makes us feel happy or can remind us of past events. Making music is expressive and creative, often used when words fail us. Our most recent session at Little Hiccups was such a wonderful opportunity to sing together, after such a difficult past 18 months, my heart was full again!! Thank you for making music with us over the years.”
I’m looking forward to doing more with them again in the future!
If you are interested, Made with Music would love to welcome Little Hiccups families to one of their award winning mini-gigs at Leeds best loved music venue, the Brudenell Social Club (LS6 1NY) on Sunday 26th September. Come with your family and friends to experience live music in a relaxed environment. Doors open at 12noon with the first act starting at 12.30pm. You’ll hear three different musicians who will play short 20 minute sets with a break in between to grab a drink or get some fresh air. One of the acts in September is musician Kris Halpin / Dyskinetic who works at the intersection of music, technology and disability and plays the MiMu gloves (see https://dyskinetic.net to find out more about Kris before the day).
These events are accessible, and they will have a changing places trailer available for you to use should you need it. Use the discount code HICCUPS2021 to make the adult tickets £2 (child tickets are also £2 and babes in arms are free but you need to let us know you’re bringing them!) We will send you information about the other acts nearer the time but can assure you, they will be great.
