At Little Hiccups, we are always looking for ways to expand the support we offer to our wonderful families. We know how beautifully unique, yet sometimes incredibly overwhelming, the journey of raising a child with additional needs can be. That is why we are absolutely thrilled to introduce a fantastic new addition to our team: Dawn Walton, who will be providing specialised Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) sessions for our community!
Dawn brings an extraordinary blend of professional clinical expertise and deep, personal lived experience to Little Hiccups. We sat down with her to share exactly how she can support both you and your children.
Meet Dawn: In Her Own Words
“My clinical and leadership background within the NHS has provided me with a deep understanding of the pressures families face, particularly when navigating additional needs and complex life challenges. As a parent to a child (now young adult!) with autism and ADHD, I bring valuable lived experience to my work. I understand the impact that stress, anxiety, and overwhelm can have on a family’s life, which fuels my passion around providing a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where individuals can focus on positive change.”
With over 30 years of experience working in the NHS—half of which was spent as a clinical specialist physiotherapist in paediatrics supporting families of children with neurodevelopmental conditions—Dawn truly understands our world. Later in her NHS career, she worked as a senior leader shaping therapy and dietetic services for both children and adults.
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, collaborative approach that combines the deep relaxation of hypnosis with practical, well-established Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) techniques.
Unlike traditional therapies that might focus heavily on past problems or trauma, Dawn’s sessions are forward-looking. They combine:
- Solution-focused discussions to explore what you want to achieve.
- Forward-looking visualisation to help you see the path ahead.
- Positive language underpinned entirely by modern neuroscience.
Because of this, every single session with Dawn is designed to be a positive, uplifting, and genuinely enjoyable experience. Through these sessions, she helps individuals build resilience, reduce anxiety, and regain a vital sense of control—ultimately boosting confidence and the ability to cope with everyday challenges.
Who can benefit?
Dawn works on a 1:1 basis and her techniques are highly effective for both adults and children aged 7 and above.
We know that consistency and comfort are key when introducing a child to a new professional. When working with children, parents are always warmly invited to the initial consultation. This ensures that everyone has a shared, comfortable understanding of exactly how the sessions work.
To make this as flexible as possible for busy schedules, Dawn offers both online sessions and can arrange face-to-face sessions depending on what suits your family best.

We Don’t Believe in ‘One Size Fits All’
With Dawn joining us, Little Hiccups is proud to say that we now have four incredible counsellors available to support our families!
We know that every parent, carer, and child is entirely unique. What works beautifully for one person might not be the right fit for another, and that is exactly why we have built such a diverse team. Our counsellors all bring different specialties, techniques, and backgrounds to the table—but they all share the same passion for helping our community navigate the highs and lows of additional needs life. They are all completely amazing at what they do!
If you want to find the perfect fit for you or your child, you can read all about our full team and how to access our counselling services on our website.
