Wow, what a weekend! Yesterday, Sunday 12th July, we celebrated a massive milestone—Little Hiccups turned 17! To mark nearly two decades of fun, support, and community, we threw a huge, high-energy K-POP themed birthday party at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.
With around 200 family members joining the celebration, the atmosphere was absolutely electric. It was a beautifully busy, lively, and joyful day. Here is a look back at how we celebrated in true Hiccups style!
Non-Stop K-POP Fun & Entertainment 🎶
From the moment families arrived, the schedule was packed with excitement. We kicked things off with welcome photos with Evie (Rumi), crafts where the children made their own fan sticks, and some brilliant Demon Hunter challenges.
Before long, the bubble machine was on, and the dance floor was packed with everyone showing off their best party moves! A massive highlight was Rumi’s main stage performance, followed by a dance routine workshop, a talent circle, and a fantastic K-POP karaoke finale to close out the day.
Between all the dancing, families tucked into a delicious lunch, topped off with some fantastic ice cream and, of course, a slice of yummy birthday cake!
Space to Relax: Our Quiet Zone 🧸
We know that a massive party with live singing, amplified music, and 200 guests can get a bit loud and overwhelming. That is why we designed the space with accessibility and comfort in mind.
For children who needed a quick break from the noise, our dedicated quiet area outside the main room was a huge success. Stocked with Lego, sensory toys, and colouring, it provided the perfect calm space to decompress and dip in and out of the action whenever they felt ready.
Shout-Outs and Super Big Thanks! 🙌
An event this spectacular takes a village, and we have some incredible people to thank for making our 17th birthday unforgettable:
- Our Performers & Entertainers: A massive thank you to our live K-POP singer from Dress Up and Dream, the brilliant Susie Sparkles! You kept the energy high and the smiles even bigger.
- Face Painting by Claire: Thank you for the stunning professional face painting and the incredible balloon modelling that the kids absolutely loved!
- The Decor Wizards: The room looked sensational thanks to incredible decorations by Celebration Balloons so a special thank you to Alison for her beautiful balloon work!
- Templegate Tiny Tots: A huge shout-out for all of your wonderful help and support on the day—we couldn’t have done it without you.
- The Royal Armouries Museum: Thank you to the venue for hosting us in such a wonderfully spacious, fully accessible, single-level ground-floor space. Having flat entry, wide walkways, and a certified permanent Changing Places toilet made the day seamless for our families.
What Our Families Said 💬
We love hearing your feedback, and reading your comments from yesterday has truly warmed our hearts. Here are a few anonymous highlights from the day:
“I enjoyed attending an event that had clearly been designed with disabled people in mind. It was the first in-person event I’ve attended by Little Hiccups and it was really nice to be part of, just to be accepted, no explanations needed… It was nice to be able to let my child choose whatever he wanted rather than trying to explain the budget for the event.”
“The staff were lovely and remembered my daughter’s name and included her in everything. The entertainers were great and the games they did were so fun for everyone.”
“I always think you can’t do better, but this event has blown us away! Really fantastic! Thanks so much for all you guys do.”
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate 17 years of Little Hiccups with us. Here is to many, many more years of smiles, support, and unforgettable memories! 🥳🎉
