Linsay Medica and Noel Davies-Atack had the pleasure of attending the Collaboration in Rehabilitation conference, held at the fantastic Horizon Leeds venue. The event, hosted by Positive OT, Intospeech, and Healing Touch Rehab, brought together a diverse group of professionals passionate about improving rehabilitation through meaningful collaboration.
The day was packed with insightful presentations and powerful personal stories
We kicked off with Chris Smith and Tom Higson, who explored the theme “Collaboration – More Than Just a Buzzword.” Their talk set the tone for the day, reminding us that collaboration, when done right, is a powerful force for change.
Dane Rowley followed with an inspiring session titled “The Clinical Neuropsychologist as Clinical Lead,” offering valuable insight into the leadership role psychologists can play in multidisciplinary teams (MDTs).
We were then deeply moved by Mike Howarth, who shared his personal “Perspective from a Survivor.” His honest and heartfelt story underscored why we do the work we do – and the difference true collaboration can make in someone’s journey.
Dr Jan Smith and Dr Mike Smith presented on “Building Cohesion in Interdisciplinary Teams,” offering practical strategies to break down silos and build stronger, more effective team dynamics.
Our very own Linsay Medica took us on an emotional journey with her session, “Riding the Roller-coaster,” reflecting on the highs and lows from a mother’s point of view and the importance of resilience and reflection.
We were also intrigued by Serenna Wagner and Charlie Douthwait, who explored “Where Neurologic Music Therapy Meets Speech and Language Therapy.” Their collaborative approach highlighted innovative ways to support patients through combined disciplines.
Finally, Laith Ritchie closed the day with “My Journey with MDTs,” a personal and professional look at navigating life and care within multidisciplinary teams.
A huge thank you goes out to Jackie Chapel and the entire team at Positive OT for organizing such a thought-provoking and well-run event. It was a day full of learning, connection, and shared purpose – a true testament to the power of collaboration in rehabilitation.
We’re looking forward to applying what we’ve learned and continuing the conversation with our colleagues and wider networks.
