It was a busy, productive, and let’s be honest delicious day at Mencap Leeds today! We had the pleasure of connecting with some fantastic partners and diving deep into how we can better support our neurodivergent community.
The heart of the day was the powerful synergy between Little Hiccups and the Leeds Parent Carer Forum (PCF). Here is a look at how we are working together:
The Power of Partnership: Little Hiccups & Leeds PCF
The core of our mission is strengthened by our close-knit relationship with the Leeds Parent Carer Forum. This collaboration ensures that support isn’t just provided, but is shaped by the people who need it most.
Strategic Alignment: The Leeds PCF held their AGM and steering group meeting, where Noel Davies-Atack (representing Little Hiccups) joined the steering group to ensure our goals remain perfectly aligned.
A Unified Voice: We are proud to work side-by-side with the Forum to ensure the voices of parent carers are heard, respected, and acted upon across the city.
Fueling the Mission: We want to extend a massive thank you to the Leeds Parent Carer Forum for their incredible generosity. They have kindly provided the vital funding required to run the courses on neurodiversity with Laura the ND Nurse.
Direct Impact: Seeing these funds in action, making essential sessions and support networks a reality is a testament to what happens when our two organisations combine resources and passion.
Rethinking Hygiene
Little Hiccups and Laura Hellfield put on: “Rethinking Hygiene: Inclusive Strategies for Neurodivergent Wellbeing.” Hygiene routines can often be a source of sensory overload or executive functioning challenges. This session focused on moving away from “one-size-fits-all” approaches in favour of practical, compassionate strategies that prioritise individual wellbeing.
A Special Visit & The Cherry on Top
It was a treat to have Jessica Duffy and Maria Adams pop in during the day to see the progress firsthand!
The Highlight: It wasn’t all spreadsheets and strategies there was also some truly great cake to keep the energy levels high!
It was lovely to see everyone there. Together, Little Hiccups and the Leeds Parent Carer Forum are making Leeds a more inclusive and supportive place for every family.
