Summer is officially just around the corner, and we have some absolutely fantastic news to share. Our popular Little Hiccups Mosaic Trail has expanded once again, and we are thrilled to announce that a brand-new masterpiece has officially landed at Tropical World in Roundhay Park!
For those who don’t know, our Mosaic Trail is a very special, ongoing project close to our hearts. We are collaborating with Little Hiccups families and the incredibly talented local artist, Mary Goodwin (www.marygoodwinmosaics.co.uk), to create a series of mosaic artworks placed in accessible areas throughout Leeds. Each unique piece represents the real-life experiences and perspectives of our wonderful families, whilst shouting from the rooftops about the fabulous, inclusive venues we have right on our doorstep.
The Inspiration Behind the Art
Every mosaic has a story, and this one is purely magical. The Tropical World installation was designed by the brilliant Jakob! If you’ve ever visited Tropical World, you will likely know and love the brilliant playground maze located just outside the main entrance. Jakob absolutely loves this maze, and his design brings that sense of fun, adventure, and exploration to life in vibrant, colourful tiles.
Mary Goodwin has done a sensational job working alongside Jakob to translate his vision into a permanent piece of art that visitors will be able to enjoy for years to come.
Why We Love Tropical World
At Little Hiccups, we are all about spreading accessibility and celebrating places that go above and beyond to make families with additional needs feel safe, welcome, and included.
Tropical World is an absolute gem for a family day out, regardless of what the unpredictable British weather decides to do! It takes you on a fully accessible indoor journey through rainforests, mangroves, and deserts where you can spot butterflies, crocodiles, and everyone’s favourite—the meerkats.
With level access throughout the building, wide paths that easily accommodate prams and wheelchairs, automatic power-assisted doors, and accessible parking right outside on Princes Avenue, it makes a day out so much easier for our families to navigate and enjoy together.
Summer Picnics and Holiday Fun
The timing of this new installation couldn’t be better. With the summer holidays rapidly approaching, we are already planning our calendar of events. We will definitely be hosting some of our famous Little Hiccups family picnics at Roundhay Park and Tropical World over the summer holidays!
It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to get together, let the children see their friends and play, and, of course, track down Jakob’s incredible mosaic in person.
Hunt it Down!
Want to find it yourself on your next family day out? You can track it down using the unique What3Words location: reap.boom.dining or head over to our dedicated Tropical World Mosaic Trail Page for all the entry prices, parking tips, and accessibility details you need to plan your perfect visit.
A massive thank you to Jakob for his beautiful design, to Mary for her incredible artistry, and to the team at Tropical World for welcoming our trail with open arms.
Keep your eyes peeled on our socials for the official dates of our upcoming summer picnics. We can’t wait to see you there!
