Summer has arrived early, and we have some absolutely fantastic news to share! We have officially added a brand-new mosaic to our growing Little Hiccups Mosaic Trail, and it has found a truly beautiful home at Harewood House in Leeds.
To celebrate, we held a brilliant summer picnic at Harewood House this week. Wow, what a day it was—the sun was absolutely beaming, and we managed to survive the 30-degree heat with plenty of cold drinks, shade, and wonderful company! We were absolutely delighted to be joined by some of our amazing Little Hiccups families, the incredibly talented artist Mary Goodwin, and members of the wonderful Harewood House team.
This project is incredibly close to our hearts. We are collaborating with Little Hiccups families and local artist Mary Goodwin (https://www.marygoodwinmosaics.co.uk) to create a series of mosaic artworks placed in accessible areas throughout Leeds. Each unique piece represents the real-life experiences and perspectives of our families, while highlighting just how beautifully inclusive and welcoming these locations are.
We were deeply moved by a lovely message from Mary at Harewood House, who shared:
“I just wanted to pass on my thanks to you and the Little Hiccups team for your hard work with the mosaic project. We are honoured to be part of the trail and I can’t tell you how much it means to us that Harewood is a place where your families feel safe and welcome.
And Mary, the mosaic is fantastic and a lovely addition to our gardens. Many staff have approached me already to tell me how much they love it! Thank you ever so much.”
Hearing that our families feel safe, seen, and welcome is exactly why we do what we do. Spreading accessibility and shouting about fab, inclusive spaces for children with additional needs is at the very core of Little Hiccups.
We also want to say a massive thank you to everyone who braved the heat to join us. We’ve already received some heartwarming feedback from the day! Ateka told us, “We enjoyed everything about Harewood House, had a gr8 time,” giving the day a full 5 out of 5 stars. Lissi also shared that her son loved “seeing his friends and playing,” adding that it was “well organised and as always loved the clear info provided before attending.”
A huge shout-out goes to the family who helped design this piece, and of course, a massive thank you to Mary Goodwin for bringing it to life so beautifully.
If you are planning your summer holidays, Harewood House is a spectacular, welcoming place for a family day out. Be sure to go and hunt down our new masterpiece!
