Finding the Rhythm: K-Pop, Demon Hunters, and the Power of “Waiting”

Finding the Rhythm: K-Pop, Demon Hunters, and the Power of “Waiting”

Finding the Rhythm: K-Pop, Demon Hunters, and the Power of “Waiting”

April 10, 2026 Events

At Little Hiccups, we often say that our events are a beautiful kind of chaos. This week’s Musical Theatre Workshop was no exception! We dived headfirst into the vibrant, high-energy world of K-Pop Demon Hunters, led by the incredible Kathleen.

It was a day filled with movement, epic storytelling, and dynamic choreography. But as much as the day was about the “glamour” of K-Pop, the real magic happened in the quiet moments between the beats.

A Different Kind of Performance

We know that for many of our children, stepping into a new environment with music and movement can be a big ask. That is why our approach is always child-led. We don’t believe in forced engagement; we believe in creating a space where every child feels safe enough to choose their own path.

While the main hall was buzzing with “Hunter” moves and vocal warm-ups, we had our breakout space ready with games, sensory toys, and colouring. This isn’t just a “side room”—it’s a vital part of the experience that allows children to regulate and engage on their own terms.

The Small Wins are the Big Wins

Every child’s journey through a Little Hiccups event looks different, and this week provided some truly heart-warming examples:

  • Instant Connections: We watched two children strike up a brand-new friendship immediately, spending the entire session side-by-side.
  • Creative Focus: One of our budding artists spent the whole session immersed in colouring. They were part of the atmosphere, contributing their own quiet energy to the room.
  • The Power of Observation: We had one superstar who didn’t want to join in the dancing or singing. Instead, he watched. He waited. He played with the sensory items during the break. And most importantly? He stayed right until the very end.

In many settings, a child not “joining in” might be seen as a missed opportunity. To us, this was the biggest win of the day. Staying in a new, loud, and busy environment for the full duration is a massive achievement. It shows a huge amount of trust and resilience. He may not have taken part this time, but he was absorbing the environment, and next time, the floor might feel a little less daunting.

That is why he earned his “Awakened Hunter” certificate just as much as those doing the high kicks!

A Huge Thank You

A massive thank you to Kathleen for her wonderful energy and for being such a champion of accessibility and inclusion. Her experience as a Dance Therapist and a neurodivergent parent herself shines through in how she holds space for our families.

And, of course, thank you to all the families who joined us. Whether your child was centre stage or masterfully colouring in the corner, we are so proud of every single one of them.

Stay tuned for our next adventure—wherever the chaos takes us next!
