Last weekend, over 100 of our Little Hiccups children and their families came together for a fantastic day out at the beautiful Ponderosa Zoo — and what a day it was!
Despite the forecast promising just a bit of light rain (spoiler: it wasn’t light!), spirits stayed high and the smiles never faded. From the moment we arrived, the zoo’s charm and warmth made it a truly special experience for all ages.

🐾 Animal Adventures
Ponderosa Zoo is home to a wide variety of animals, and our families loved spotting the reindeer, porcupine, lemurs, meerkats, and many more. The animal encounters and educational talks were a big hit, giving everyone a chance to learn more about the zoo’s amazing residents.
🌿 A Space to Recharge
We had both of the Educational Rooms booked especially for our group, providing a calm, quiet space for children to unwind or enjoy a packed lunch. It was a well-planned part of the day that gave families a chance to take a break and relax.
🎠 Play, Sand, and Ice Cream
The outdoor play areas, zip wire, and man-made beach were a huge success — especially with the little ones. My youngest child had the time of their life getting completely covered in sand! With the aid of their big brother of course! And of course, no family day out is complete without an ice cream treat.
☔ Rain? No Problem!
When the skies opened up in the afternoon, it only added to the adventure. Our families took it in stride, embracing the downpour with laughter. The zoo’s accessible facilities and friendly staff helped make sure everyone stayed comfortable and safe.
♿ Accessibility Matters
Ponderosa Zoo continues to impress with its commitment to accessibility:
- Wheelchair-friendly paths and free wheelchair hire
- Accessible toilets throughout the grounds
- Free parking with designated disabled spaces
- Assistance dogs welcome (except in Lemur Lookout)
While there isn’t a Changing Places toilet, one of our families confirmed that there is a table available in the baby changing room near the nocturnal enclosure.
