Today marks a significant milestone for Little Hiccups as we celebrate our 15th anniversary. What started as a small stay-and-play session once a fortnight has blossomed into a multifaceted support system that touches the lives of over 1,000 families. Our commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment for children with additional needs and disabilities has only strengthened over the years. As we look back on our journey, we are filled with pride and gratitude for how far we have come and the community we have built together.
Twice Weekly Stay n’ Play for Under 5’s
Our humble beginnings were rooted in offering a fortnightly stay-and-play session. Today, we provide this twice a week, catering specifically to children under five with additional needs and disabilities. These sessions are designed to create a safe haven where parents and carers can relax and connect with others in similar situations. It’s a space where children can play freely, and families can find solace and support.
Monthly Family Fun Days
Understanding that fun and inclusion should know no bounds, we introduced our Family Fun Days. These monthly outings are designed for the whole family, including our special children who have started school. From adventurous trips to serene park visits, our goal is to show that there are no limits to having fun. These events are about creating joyful memories and strengthening family bonds.
Accessible Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy
We have made strides in providing accessible hydrotherapy sessions with trained physiotherapists, offered at a reduced cost. This ensures that all families can benefit from this therapeutic service. Additionally, our physiotherapy assessment and advice sessions offer personalized guidance and support to cater to each child’s unique needs, further enhancing their well-being and development.
Inclusive Yoga Sessions
Our accessible yoga sessions incorporate classical yoga practices tailored to children with additional needs. These sessions combine movement, breathing, deep relaxation, sound, rhythm, massage, and sensory integration techniques. This holistic approach helps in fostering physical and mental well-being among our children.
Equipment Hire Services
Recognising the importance of accessibility, we offer various equipment hire services. Our all-terrain buggies enable children in wheelchairs to explore beaches and other challenging areas. We also provide accessible travel beds and Stabilo Bath Bagels, ensuring safety and comfort during travels and bathing. These services empower families to embark on adventures without limitations.
Emotional and Mental Health Support
At Little Hiccups, we understand the emotional journey parents and carers go through. Our counselling support offers a listening ear and a safe space to express and process emotions. For those who may not feel comfortable in group settings, our Outreach Service provides a relaxed, friendly chat over coffee, making that first step towards acceptance and support a bit easier.
Compassion Packs
Our Compassion Packs—Emergency Hospital Packs and Bereavement Packs—are designed to offer comfort and support during challenging times. These packs remind families that they are not alone and provide essential items and resources when they are most needed.
Educational and Informative Courses
Empowering parents with knowledge is one of our key missions. We offer educational and informative courses to help parents support their child, family, and themselves. These courses cover various topics, providing valuable insights and practical advice.
Signposting to Additional Services
Navigating the world of additional needs and disabilities can be overwhelming. Little Hiccups is here to guide families through the information and signpost them to other services. From Max Cards offering discounts to The Principle Trust Holidays providing free respite breaks, and legal advice from Ison Harrison Solicitors, we connect families to crucial resources.
