For the second year, Little Hiccups has been contacted by the lovely people at Thought Bubble and invited along free of charge! And of course, we say yes. This year we had approximately 20 people take up this generous offer and we visited spread over the weekend.
Thought Bubble is the Yorkshire Comic Art Festival! It is a week long celebration of comics, illustration and more spread across the whole of Yorkshire, finishing in a huge two day comic convention in Harrogate, which is where we attended. It focuses more on the artwork of the comics world and they aim to inspire, educate and bring people together. And I have to say – I saw a lot of immense talent.
My teenagers were keen to go to this event, so we turned up early on Saturday and the place was already heaving. It was ok though. The atmosphere was friendly and the crowds were easy to thread through. The costumes were out in full force and there were some amazing ones. I was constantly being wowed by the effort and the skills that I saw.
Not only that – but Thought Bubble made every effort to be accessible. The building is wheelchair accessible but they also have a dedicated space called Bub’s Lounge which is run bythe Specialist Autism Services. Bub’s Lounge is a quiet space within the comic convention, for those who may feel overwhelmed by the bustling halls. There is space to sit and draw, or just take a breath. They also had free earplugs and sunglasses for anyone experiencing some sensory overload too. So I do highly recommend it!
Hopefully we’ll be invited back next year. 🙂
