Every November, we book a cinema trip at The Showcase Cinema to escape the normally horrible November weather for a little bit. We’ve always visited The Showcase as we’ve found it to be the most accessible of all the cinemas. There are minimal steps, wheelchair spaces and large, comfy chairs or ‘beds’ at the front. And the staff have always been, and continue to be, the most friendly and helpful I’ve found.
This year we came to see Lyle, Lyle Crocodile which is based on the best-selling book series by Bernard Waber, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is a live-action musical comedy. When the Primm family moves to New York City, their young son Josh struggles to adapt to his new school and new friends. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle – a singing crocodile who loves baths, caviar and great music – living in the attic of his new home. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbour Mr. Grumps, the Primm’s must band together with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti, to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places and there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.
There were 120+ of us last weekend and we all turn up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning. We’re allowed into the warmth and have time to relax in the foyer and enjoy a warm coffee, while the staff prepare our popcorn. Then we are allowed to mill through to the cinema screen and grab our seats. The viewing has a lower volume setting, subtitles and the lights reminded on low.
This meant that the showing was a lot more relaxed and the children were able to stand up out of their chairs, or join in with the songs with a dance or laugh along with the jokes as loud and as long as they wanted. It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the experiences of the cinema in a more relaxed environment. I had a couple of families come up to me and say this is their first time at the cinema – and that is what it is all about. Time to relax as a family. #MakingMemories #NoLimits
