There is something truly special about seeing a room full of families, each finding their own rhythm and joy. Yesterday, Little Hiccups hosted our Creative Multi-Activity Day, and it was a heart-warming reminder of why we do what we do.
The concept for the day was simple: no pressure. We wanted to provide a relaxed space where families could dip in and out of different activities or find one they loved and stick with it. Seeing the wonderful masterpieces created throughout the session proved that when children are given the freedom to create in their own way, magic happens!
A Feast for the Senses
From the moment families arrived, the building was buzzing with creativity. We were joined by some incredible partners who made the day possible:
- Pottery Painting & Sand Art: For those looking for a calming, sensory experience, Little Biscuit Pottery and Little Legs Sand Art provided the perfect outlet. It was lovely to see the focus on the children’s faces as they worked on their designs—true masterpieces in the making!
- The Pieces Project: There was a real sense of pride as children built and decorated their laser-cut wooden projects. These weren’t just crafts; they were tangible reminders of what they could achieve.
- Lush Bath Bomb Making: The smell of essential oils filled the air as the team from Lush (White Rose) helped children press together their own fresh, handmade bath bombs.
- Circus Skills: Over at Circus Leeds, the energy was high! From diabolo to juggling, it was wonderful to see children who might struggle with traditional sports flourish in such a non-competitive and inclusive environment.
- Made with Music and Stories with Liv We were treated to interactive, musical storytelling. Watching the children engage with instruments and props alongside the stories was a highlight for many.
Fuelled by Good Food and Great Company
No Little Hiccups event is complete without a proper spread! We made sure everyone was well-fuelled with a variety of refreshments, from adult-friendly spicy halal chicken sandwiches to vegan ginger cake slices. Thank you to Leeds Mencap for feeding us! And feeding us well.
What touched us most, however, weren’t the activities themselves, but the stories we heard. Seeing families connect, share experiences, and watch their children try something new for the first time is what Little Hiccups is all about.
Thank You
A huge thank you to all the facilitators who brought their skills to our community, and to our amazing families for joining us. Whether you spent the day mastered the circus hoop or quietly painting a pot, we hope you went home with a smile (and perhaps a little bit of sand in your pockets!).
