We held our first Eid Party! And I’m still in awe of how amazing everyone look while I rocked up in my Hiccups t-shirt. Lesson learnt – next year I’m glamming up.
We had the most beautiful venue I think we have ever had. Mumtaz in Leeds is certainly a place to visit if you have never been. The walls were plastered with flowers and mirrors and Angel Wings – it was a place designed for a great photo opportunity – of which there were many. The view is of the docks outside and it were filled with colourful canal boats. I had a lovely chat with a child who was just absolutely amazed that people were living on the canal boats. And we can’t forget the food which was just fantastic and very plentiful. I’ve found a new dessert that I need to learn how to make – soooo tasty. Everything was really gorgeous to be honest – it’s hard to pick out a favourite. I’ll definitely be going again!
And following on from that – a huge thank you to the staff at Mumtaz who put up with a variety of requests and did it all with a smile on their face. They were really brilliant – and I couldn’t fault them at all.
To entertain the children, we had Ray Burrell Magic, and he did a great job keeping everyone entertained, first with a magic show then with balloon modelling. I had a number of parents come up to me, to tell me how amazing he was. The children were certainly enthralled.
A huge thank you as always to Claire who never fails to amaze with her facepainting skills and I saw a range of brilliant faces. And this year we also had the very talented Aaminah, helping us out and showing us her Henna skills.
Every child had a goody bag to take home with them as well with some small gift items for them to enjoy at home – all halal and suitable for vegetarian of course! If you enjoyed the biscuits inside them, they were all donated by Iram from Simplery.
A huge thank you to our new volunteer, Shamila, who worked tirelessly on this event and has advised me every step of the way. She’s already planning next years – so watch this spot!
