The Growing Zone is one of the first places that Little Hiccups used to visit when we were small and new. And we still love it!
It is a community garden project in Kippax, a village near Leeds, created from five derelict allotments to bring together everyone, with or without disabilities, visual impairment and learning needs, in an environment that is safe. Where they can learn from each other, build up their confidence, mix with other people from the community, be taught about the land, how to grow vegetables, flowers and fruit etc. and be out in the fresh air having fun and building friendships.
We are looking at options for entertainment and will confirm closer to the time once we know what the weather is like! Some ideas are:
- Ten pin Bowling
- Making mobiles for the gazebo
- Paint old trainers to hang in the Gazebo
- Woodburning
- Make flowers from bottles
- Lawn Darts
- Colouring Competition
- Harry Potter poster drawing and painting day
Little Hiccups will also be providing a platter lunch for attendees so please let us know any dietary requirements when booking.
Parking
The Growing Zone is at the end of a set of allotments and parking is reserved for allotment users. There is limited parking availability for those with mobility needs. Please add in the booking form if you require this. For those that can, it will considerate street parking and a short work to The Growing Zone.
Accessibility
The walk up to The Growing Zone is a little uneven but there are paving stones, etc on the way. Once in, the ground is wide and level and wheelchairs will be able to move around with ease. Some of the indoor areas are quite small (sheds, etc). There is a large polytunnel which has wide access but can be noisy in the rain.
There is also a Changing Place and accessible toilets.
