This Wednesday, Mary (our resident mosaic wizard) and I headed to Harewood House for their Community Access Membership Christmas get-together. If you’ve never been at Christmas, trust me—it’s like stepping into a festive Pinterest board. Twinkling lights, lavish decorations, and that unmistakable stately-home sparkle.
We weren’t just there for the mince pies (although, yes, they were excellent). We had a mission: to finalise plans for our upcoming Little Hiccups mosaic. After a stroll through the South Garden with Kate from Harewood House, we agreed the mosaic will take pride of place on the Tramper shed wall, complete with signage explaining what it is. And the verdict on size? The bigger, the better!
Even better, we’ll be pencilling in a launch day during May half-term, with a picnic for Little Hiccups families to celebrate. We’ll set a date soon and hopefully it will be a day of sunshine, mosaics, and happy faces!
The day wasn’t all planning and plotting. We wandered through Harewood’s beautifully decorated Christmas house (seriously, it’s stunning) and joined the CAM presentation, which was a brilliant chance to catch up with other charities doing amazing work. We chatted with several other charities – all absolutely fantastic and all sharing ideas about making days out more inclusive.
And yes, our wheelchair scarecrow from the autumn event got a few shout-outs—it seems he’s still a crowd favourite!
Big thanks to Kate and the Harewood team for pulling this together. Honestly, one thing that really stands out about Harewood is how hard they’re working to make their spaces accessible to everyone—not just those with additional needs, but anyone who might otherwise feel left out. They’re listening, learning, and making real changes. That’s something worth celebrating.
So here’s to six months of being part of CAM—and to many more. Next stop: mosaic magic. Stay tuned for updates!
