Going away on holiday – or even a short visit – can seem like an impossible dream for many parents and carers struggling with behavioural issues and safety concerns. The Travel beds provides a safe, low-stimulation environment, in which a person can settle at night when away from home. The soft walls and floor mean there are no hard surfaces inside, reducing the risk of injury. Carers and family can relax – a real holiday for everyone!
Little Hiccups was lucky enough to secure a grant for the purchases from Halifax Building Society via one of our families who works there. Ryan Tolley from the Halifax had approached us to see if we could use this grant money for anything and it was quickly agreed and decided by the Trustees that Accessible Beds would be a nice addition to the services that Little Hiccups provides.
A travel bed is basically a safe bed designed for children who may be unsafe in an ordinary room or bed. It can be used for those with complex needs, including learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy and challenging behaviours.
With the grant money, Little Hiccups was lucky enough to be able to purchase two different beds for hire with different attributes as we appreciate it is not one size fits all! You can see them below:

This summer, the first went out for hire all the way to Scotland where it was used by a family with a young boy who valued the security of the bed.
Mum, Anna, says “it really was a life saver and Billy continued to get to sleep by himself once securely ‘zipped up’. He also identified it as a ‘safe space’ when we were staying in an unfamiliar place – asking to go in ‘Billy’s holiday bed’ when he wanted to feel more secure – which was also useful!”
The Travel Bed is in line with the other services that Little Hiccups offer and is not a stand alone equipment hire services. It is part of our commitment to build memories for the Little Hiccups families. We do not hire out to unknown families. We ask that families are known to us, are registered for at least 6 months and use our other services.

Thank you to Ryan Tolley and Halifax Building Society for the support.
