It has been several years since we have visited The Growing Zone and I honestly don’t know why we stayed away so long! It is honestly, one of the most beautiful places I have been.
I think that it helped that it was a gloriously sunny day, which was a complete surprise for September (and I didn’t bring suncream of course!) but as I’d been weather-watching all week hoping for a lovely day to allow everyone to enjoy themselves to the fullest, it was wonderful that it was! And there are a lot of little nooks and cranny’s in this garden that allow space for the sun lovers but also the shade lovers.
June and the team at The Growing Zone absolutely excelled themselves with their enthusiasm and ability to entertain the families on the day. We had air darts, 9 pin bowling (one was missing apparently!), colouring, horse racing (wooden horses that you pulled by rolling up string), potting plants to take home and treasure hunts. There was also a bit of fun with buckets of water and sponges which had everyone in fits of giggles.
And all this takes places in a setting full of flowers, ripe vegetables, apple trees literally bursting with fruit ready to be picked and everywhere you looked in the garden were hidden delights from Darleks, to moles popping up out of the ground to dinosaurs. There was no shortage of seating either. Families could sit in the sun or relax under a gazebo surrounding by flowers. There was something for everyone and it was exactly what we needed. A relaxing day out in the sun, together again. Everyone could explore at their own rate and engage in the areas they wanted to.
And of course – it was all rounded off with yummy food from Costco. I really don’t know how they get their cakes so fluffy but I’m glad they do! There was very little left at the end and that was packed up and taken home by the families and volunteers on the day! Plus there may be a treat or two at Stay n Play for the next couple of weeks!
Thank you June and the team from The Growing Zone. It was a lovely day.
